Balance and vestibular testing refers to a group of diagnostic evaluations used to assess how well the inner ear's balance system is functioning. The vestibular system, located within the inner ear, plays a central role in maintaining balance and spatial orientation, and when it is not working properly, individuals may experience dizziness, vertigo, or a persistent sense of unsteadiness. Common tests include Videonystagmography (VNG), Electrocochleography (ECOG), rotary chair testing, and Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMPs). These evaluations help audiologists and physicians identify the source of a balance disorder and determine the most appropriate course of care.
