Musicians are exposed to high sound levels consistently and over long periods of time, which puts them at a real risk for noise-induced hearing loss. Standard foam earplugs can muffle sound in a way that makes it difficult to hear pitch and tone accurately, which isn't practical when you're performing or monitoring. Filtered musician earplugs are designed to reduce volume evenly across frequencies, so sound still comes through clearly — just at a safer level. Extended high frequency hearing testing is also worth considering for musicians, since early damage often shows up in the higher frequencies before it affects everyday hearing.
